I thought I'd take a break from all that boring land stuff and share some of my housing research. I've been investigating modulars for over a year now and have a short list of ones I like. Any Google search can give you a list of good vendors, I've also subscribed to Dwell for years and they regularly cover the topic. Although not a new market, looking for a vendor that has been around for a bit and has a good history of satisfied customers is kind of important. One that also offers architectural services as well as overall project management (if needed) is also a plus. Based on available floor plans and the above criteria, my favorites are:
PROTO HOMES - interesting 'core' concept and scores of floor plans with great customization options and flexible interior finishes (which are not included, making that a huge plus for me). Stylistically all are based on the same modern aesthetic, but it's one I really like. Also the house is delivered in pieces (instead of modules) which makes it easier to reach difficult properties.
STILLWATER DWELLINGS - great design, many floor plans with excellent customization options, and great interior details. All designs are stylistically the same, but again with a nice modern look that I really like. These homes can be delivered in modules or as pieces - which gives you flexibility based on your site location.
CONNECT HOMES - modern and simple, more restrictive floor plan customization, but multiple finishes and other options. If you like minimalistic design, these are a great choice as a clean slate that you can personalize to your taste.
METHOD HOMES - large number of styles and floor plans but the Elemental and Annata series are the standouts. I saw the Annata model at the Dwell on Design show last year, and the home was modern with nice details and a good finish build.
LIVING HOMES - also seen multiple models through the Dwell on Design shows, I like the variety of designs and efficiency of space, but most felt a bit too cozy inside and the available options felt a little restrictive.
There are plenty more out there, including some that produce very high-end homes (bluhomes) and some that can go pretty small (Alchemy's weehouse).
As I get closer to actually purchasing land, I'll dive into actual floor plans, pricing structures and narrow my list down for whatever works best for my property.
