I know, it’s been awhile. Really just lots of less interesting news since my last post and as pandemic life continues on, weeks seem to pass rather quickly. On top of that, a move to a new part of Los Angeles (why not?), a dumb biking accident (I need to slow down), and some unexpected travel – just added to that quick passage of time. So a few things I’ve been meaning to post about, but just never got to…
I met my neighbor to the right – in an odd way. When you look at my site plan, there are a series of concrete pads on the right side of the property and a stairway down to a retaining wall. The weird angles between those pads are part of my neighbors hardscape terrance, but cross over the property line. The pad furthest up the hill has a slopping face down from it with stacked natural rock to a short retaining wall in his yard. After some rain, it seems the natural rock below the slab collapsed down into his space and stuck the corner of his house. He wrote me a letter to let me know and we eventually met at his house. The damage was minimal and his sons helped him toss all the fallen rock over one of the walls where the stairs end. A really great guy, he understood that all of this will need to be addressed once construction starts and since he has a contractors background, didn’t seem too concerned. He was also able to confirm that it was once one large property that was sub divided prior to him purchasing the house.
The saga of keeping the land clear of fire danger continued this year, but I’ll follow that up in another post given the weirdness of this past cycle, and the whole mystery of what happens on empty land when you don’t live on it or check in regularly.
Lastly, we’re getting closer to the mid-November appointment for the design review with the Mulholland Scenic Parkway board. Because of the plan revisions for the value engineering exercise, this will be the first time the complete plan will be presented for approval – fingers crossed.
