The Reason

I’ve often stated that this diary of my land/home development experience is mostly just a way of staying sane and helping keep my small family up to date on my progress. A side benefit is if it helps others who are thinking of doing the same in this crazy Los Angeles market, on a difficult piece of land, and trying to do it in a way where the overall budget is not out of wack with area norms (as inflated as they are). However, I don’t advertise or market this site, and really just share it when someone shows an interest in what I’m trying to do. So it gives me great joy when someone does read about my journey and is inspired (or just stupid enough) to go down this road as well.

So I’d like to give a shout out to Thomas (coincidently having the same name as me), a former co-worker who is also looking to built his next home in the greater LA area. Since he’s given me a ‘massive’ spike in viewership – having read every post – I do feel like documenting my experience is even more worth the effort.

Although there was a lot of things that generally sucked over the last few years (and especially this past year), my experiences in land purchase, ownership and development have truly been one of the joys. I’ve dealt with some of the best people, have learned so much from all of them, and really had a great time simply enjoying the process – the highs, the lows and everything in between. So knowing that someone else might benefit from my experiences make it all that much better.

So here’s to another new year, where we can’t necessarily control what happens, but there will definitely be a lot more learning and hopefully many more steps closer to my last home. And now, maybe another person’s as well.
